We are pleased to welcome PD Dr. med. Daniel P. Berthold as a new member of our medical team at OrthoCenter Munich starting in January. As a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery with a focus on sports orthopedics and traumatology, Dr. Berthold brings outstanding expertise in the treatment of shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle injuries.


Dr. Berthold has over seven years of experience at renowned national and international university hospitals, including the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), and the University of Connecticut (UCONN) in the USA. His innovative research has been recognized with numerous national and international scientific awards. With over 100 scientific publications and 25 book contributions, he is one of the leading experts in sports medicine, joint surgery, and orthopedic research.


His focus is on modern treatment methods that are individually tailored to the needs of patients—especially athletes. Dr. Berthold combines precise diagnostics, innovative treatment approaches, and patient-centered care to achieve optimal outcomes.

This committee focuses on clinically relevant scientific questions ranging from focal cartilage damage to early arthritis of the glenohumeral joint. Special interest is given to the etiopathogenesis of cartilage damage and arthritis, as well as their treatment.

DVSE – German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (Research and Development Committee)

The primary task of this committee is the development and implementation of multicenter studies aimed at generating new scientific insights in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery while also reviewing previous findings.

DKG – German Knee Society

This society promotes research, education, and training for doctors, therapists, and scientists dealing with knee joint injuries and diseases. It unites trauma surgeons, endoprosthetists, sports traumatologists, sports physicians, physiotherapists, and researchers.

ESSKA – European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy

ESSKA facilitates the exchange and dissemination of knowledge in sports traumatology, knee surgery, and arthroscopy. The society organizes a congress every two years, bringing together professionals from around the world.

SECEC – European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow

This society promotes scientific collaboration and continuous education for European orthopedic surgeons specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, advancing the physiological, pathological, and therapeutic study of these joints.

ISAKOS – International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine
